With great reverence for Our Pope's leadership and in response to the profound call in Laudato Si', we, the True and Faithful, present this urgent petition. We ask the Holy Church to bless and baptize Our God-given herb, cannabis, as a sacred plant for healing, sustenance, and environmental stewardship. It is time for the Church to recognize the abundant blessings this plant offers, for the greater good of humanity and creation.
The time has come. Baptize it already.
Why Baptize Cannabis?
1. A Healing Gift from God
Cannabis has been used medicinally for millennia, providing relief for chronic pain, anxiety, epilepsy, and many other ailments. Modern research validates its effectiveness as a natural alternative to synthetic pharmaceuticals, often with fewer side effects. In a world suffering from health crises—mental, physical, and spiritual—cannabis is a God-given answer that can restore well-being to many. A well Endocannabinoid System (ECS), with its essential functions such as Homeostasis, Neurogenesis, et al, is a building block for sound edification. Not only should we proclaim all is lawful as Paul, We deserve to have it baptized as Coffee was by Pope Clement VIII.
But more importantly, its prohibition has caused a global health crisis, with millions denied access to this natural medicine. This neglect has led to a silent epidemic of suffering, benefiting the rich, a form of medical and economical injustice that especially impacts the most vulnerable. By baptizing cannabis, the Church can sanctify its use for healing in line with God’s love for the sick.
2. Environmental Stewardship
Cannabis and it's hemp offer extraordinary ecological benefits, perfectly aligned with the Church’s call for ecological conversion in Laudato Si'. Hemp is a sustainable crop that regenerates soil, requires minimal water, and helps sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. As climate change threatens our world, hemp offers a solution to restore balance and care for the Earth.
This versatile plant can also replace environmentally destructive products like plastics and synthetic fibers, offering eco-friendly alternatives. By baptizing cannabis and encouraging its cultivation, the Church can play a pivotal role in promoting environmental stewardship.
3. Social and Economic Justice
The criminalization of cannabis has disproportionately harmed marginalized communities, deepening cycles of poverty and systemic injustice. This persecution stems from the greed of industries and governments that sought to suppress this sacred herb for profit.
By advocating for the decriminalization and lawful cultivation of cannabis, the Church can take a prophetic stand for justice. Baptizing cannabis is not just an act of healing for individuals—it is an act of reconciliation for communities that have been oppressed, exploited, and left behind. It offers economic opportunities, empowering local economies and reducing dependence on global corporations.
4. A Return to Holy Tradition
Cannabis has deep roots in sacred history. Many scholars believe ancient priests, including Aaron, the first High Priest, used sacred anointing oils made from cannabis. Our wonder herb was a household remedy, with valued propagation among Church Tabernacles, self-sustaining Monasteries, and residences, even Peter the first Pope. These oils were essential for both spiritual and physical healing. The prohibition of cannabis is a relatively modern invention, driven by political and economic agendas rather than theological reasoning.
Baptizing cannabis restores this lost tradition. It is an affirmation that this plant, that can improve the properties of the bread and wine used in the Eucharist, is part of God’s creation and can be sanctified for holy purposes.
5. Economic Empowerment for the Poor
In a world where global capitalism has ravaged local economies, cannabis offers a pathway to economic empowerment for the poor. Hemp and cannabis farming can provide jobs, food, medicine, and renewable materials for communities that are often excluded from the global economy.
By baptizing cannabis, the Church can promote a Christ-centered economy that values people and creation over profit. This is not just an economic issue—it is a moral one. Baptizing cannabis offers a means to promote distributive justice and create economic opportunities for the marginalized. We believe by baptizing cannabis, eyes will be able to see the crosses abandoned, and mercy to put their hand to the plow for the Kingdom of Heaven without looking back.
Cannabis and the Virtue of Temperance
The Church has always championed the virtue of temperance—the practice of moderation and self-control in our desires and actions. Many worry that cannabis use may conflict with this principle. However, when used responsibly and in the right context, cannabis does not violate the virtue of temperance but strengthens it.
Just as the Church blesses wine in the sacrament of the Eucharist and encourages its moderate, respectful use, so too can cannabis be embraced when it is used for healing and stewardship. The misuse of any God-given gift—whether food, drink, or medicine—can lead to excess and harm, but cannabis itself is not inherently sinful, nor a powerful source of addiction. It is God-given to all of mankind. It is the manner of its use that determines whether temperance is upheld.
The responsible use of cannabis for medicinal, environmental, and spiritual purposes honors the virtue of temperance. By promoting moderation and the proper application of this plant, the Church can set an example of balanced, holy living. Baptizing cannabis as a sacred gift encourages its responsible, ethical use—just as the Church teaches us to responsibly use other elements of creation. To address ECS dysregulation and deficiencies, required regular use of its dietary nutritious seeds and beneficial nutraceuticals, consisting of its diverse terpenes, cannabinoids, and flavonoids, providing an entourage effect of health benefit, is nearly unavoidable. With effective education, new market capabilities such as needed nutraceuticals and incentivization.
A Call to Action for All Believers
By baptizing cannabis, We would send a powerful message to the world: that the Church stands for the healing of both people and planet, for justice, reconciliation, and the responsible stewardship of God’s creation. If we are to love our enemy, yet not cast pearls before the unholy, then baptizing Our diverse and beneficial herb, endorsing it as lawful, may just be among the tops significant ways for us to have worthy fruits.
To all who read this petition, We invite you to join this cause. Sign, share, and support this movement to bring cannabis into the fold of blessed creation. Together, We can offer this plant as a sacrament of healing, justice, and sustainability.
It’s time to baptize cannabis. Let it be recognized, blessed, and celebrated as the sacred gift it is.
